IDENTITY THEFT

 

 


Identity theft is a crime in which the perpetrator obtains a victim’s personal information typically without their knowledge or consent, and uses this information to defraud merchants, banking institutions, credit card companies and, most significantly, the victims themselves.

Frequently acquired personal information consists of social security numbers, bank account / credit card account numbers, driver’s license information etc.

Once a person is victimized by identity theft, in addition to contacting law enforcement, other steps must be taken to not only address the financial exposure, but the integrity of your credit rating.
