OFFICER KEN

Intended as a means of educating the public on motor vehicle laws and safety issues, the Traffic Division prints a weekly column in the Darien News-Review & Darien Times newspapers called “Officer Ken Says”. Started in the fall of 2006, this series of informational newspaper articles has covered various topics: seatbelt laws, speeding fines, traffic light regulations, cell phone law, accident statistics, as well as other pertinent town ordinances and safety topics. Public comments and suggestions for the “Officer Ken Says” articles are encouraged and often used through an email address trafficdivision@darienct.gov. The goal of these articles is to get motorists to “Drive Safe – Drive Smart”, and to get the general public to “Be Safe – Be Smart”.

Although these articles are meant to be a way to educate the public on common motor vehicle law violations and safety concerns, the articles are also meant to be a tribute to fallen Darien Police Officer Kenneth Bateman Jr., who was killed in the line of duty in during a burglary in 1981.
