DARIEN POLICE COMMISSION
JANUARY 4, 2012
1. CALL TO ORDER
The 2,238th meeting of the Darien Police Commission was held on the above mentioned date at Police Headquarters. Commissioner Johnson, Commissioner Harrel, Commissioner Santarella, Chief Lovello, and Jan Lesko (Commission Secretary) were in attendance. The meeting was called to order at 9:00 AM.
2. SWEARING IN OF NEW POLICE OFFICER
Michael J. Dos Santos was sworn in as a probationary police officer. Officer Dos Santos is fully certified and will begin his field service training on January 4, 2012.
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Commissioner Santarella motioned to approve the minutes of the meeting held on December 21, 2011, seconded by Commissioner Johnson. All were in favor. The time was 9:10 AM.
4. DEPARTMENT ACTIVITY
A robbery in which a taxi cab driver was injured is currently under investigation.
5. OLD BUSINESS
Status of Police Department Building Project
The Detective Bureau is scheduled to move into the new section of the building next week. The Town’s IT Department is preparing for the installation of the phone system and computers. Final cleaning of the new section will take place this week. Furniture delivery has been delayed so folding tables will be used until the furniture arrives. A temporary Certificate of Occupancy should be obtained tomorrow. The holding cells are currently being outfitted. It is expected that everyone currently working in the front section of the building will be relocated in the rear section by the end of January. A lobby will be set up in the Communications trailer for the general public needing to conduct business at the police department.
School Resource Officer
Chief Lovello advised that although it will affect overtime, plans are to utilize existing staff to fill the position of School Resource Officer beginning in September.
6. NEW BUSINESS
False Alarm Account
Chief Lovello requested $2,240 from the False Alarm account funds to cover the tuition for Sgt. Cirillo to attend the First Line Supervisor course at Roger Williams University. Commissioner Santarella motioned to approve the use of $2,240 from the False Alarm account for tuition for
Sgt. Cirillo to attend the First Line Supervisor course at Roger Williams University, seconded by Commissioner Harrel. All were in favor. The time was 9:25 AM.
Chief Lovello requested $1,100 from the False Alarm account funds for the purchase of ASP training bags and ASP soft training batons. Commissioner Johnson motioned to approve the use of $1,100 from the False Alarm account for the purchase of ASP training bags and ASP soft training batons, seconded by Commissioner Santarella. All were in favor. The time was 9:28 AM.
There being no other business to be considered, Commissioner Johnson motioned to adjourn, seconded by Commissioner Harrel. All were in favor. The time was 9:30 AM.
