DARIEN POLICE COMMISSION
JUNE 27, 2012
1. CALL TO ORDER
The 2,246th meeting of the Darien Police Commission was held on the above mentioned date at Police Headquarters. Commissioner Johnson, Commissioner Harrel, Commissioner Santarella, Chief Lovello, and Jan Lesko (Commission Secretary) were in attendance. The meeting was called to order at 5:00 PM.
2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Commissioner Santarella motioned to approve the minutes of the regular meeting held on May 23, 2012, seconded by Commissioner Harrel. All were in favor. The time was 5:03 PM.
A letter from a Wilton resident commending the services of Officer T.J. Garbera was reviewed.
A letter from a Rowayton resident commending the services of Officer Elizabeth DiIorio was reviewed.
The Police Commission applauded the actions of these two officers.
4. DEPARTMENT ACTIVITY
Plans are complete and in place for the Town Fireworks being held on Sunday, July 1st.
There was a recent rash of 17 motor vehicle burglaries and 3 house burglaries. Suspects have been identified and arrest warrants are being issued.
The last Chevrolet Caprice patrol vehicle is being delivered tomorrow.
The situation of dogs at Pear Tree Point Beach appears to be greatly improved.
In response to complaints regarding no thru trucks on Route 136, the area was monitored and there were only three violations.
5. OLD BUSINESS
Police Department Building Project
The building project is still proceeding on schedule. At this time, the Police Commission journeyed to the indoor shooting range for a demonstration. This was followed by a building tour.
6. NEW BUSINESS
Requests from False Alarm Account
Chief Lovello advised the Commission that he would be seeking funds of approximately $1,800 for the Defensive Tactics Initiative. This initiative allows officers to be trained in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). Sgt. Lawlor and Officer Wallman recently received this type of training in San Diego. Discussion on this matter will continue at the next Police Commission meeting.
There being no other business to be considered, Commissioner Johnson motioned to adjourn, seconded by Commissioner Santarella. All were in favor. The time was 6:10 PM.
