For Immediate Release

Residents are asked to pay very close attention to information pertaining to the storm as it approaches our area early next week.  The Town of Darien will be updating residents via the Code Red phone notification system, Twitter, Nixle, and the internet.  If you do not have a free Twitter account, create one now at www.twitter.com  and “follow” DarienPolice@darienpd to get the latest updates. Further information, including hurricane preparedness tips, can be found at www.darienpolice.org.  Important information from Town officials and departments can be found at www.darienct.gov

As the storm approaches, information currently available suggests a strong potential for flooding, particularly along coastal and low lying areas.  Coastal residents should make evacuation plans should evacuation become necessary.  High tides will occur around midday and again around midnight on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  The Department of Public Works is clearing storm drains in flood prone areas throughout town.  If you have outdoor furniture and accessories, they should be taken indoors or secured.

If you are on medication or oxygen, please take steps now to ensure you have enough to last throughout the storm.  If you have a generator, please ensure it is fueled, properly vented away from enclosed areas, and wired correctly.  Be sure that you have an adequate supply of non-perishable foods and drinking water, particularly if you have well water.  Should shelters be needed, Town officials will provide timely information. Thank you.
