For Immediate Release

On March 3, 2009 at approximately 1:00 AM a Darien resident called Darien Police via 911 and reported that he had just been confronted at the front door of his residence by three armed males. The alleged victim reported that he was confronted by these three males when he approached the front door of his residence after hearing a “loud knock” at the front door. While the alleged victim reported the three suspects ordered him to open the door, he instead reported to officers that he retreated into the residence and contacted police. The three suspects had left the scene when police arrived shortly thereafter.
Within a short period of time of the initial call, officers received information that the alleged home invasion was more likely an attempted robbery that occurred as a result of a previously arranged marijuana purchase by the suspects from the alleged victim. Investigation led to the development of three suspects. Darien Police detectives have information that the victim was familiar with at least one of the suspects. It appears that the suspects had made arrangements via telephone with the victim to purchase marijuana from him at his Darien residence. It appears that upon arriving to make the scheduled purchase, the suspects instead produced what appeared to be two handguns and demanded the victim turn over the marijuana. The victim refused and the suspects fled.
Search warrants were obtained on Tuesday, March 3rd, and executed that evening for the residence of the alleged victim as well two Stamford homes where two of the suspects reside. Evidence has been recovered as a result of these search warrants, including a .22 caliber blank gun reportedly used by one of the suspects.
Interviews conducted by Darien detectives led to four (4) arrest warrants being issued today by a judge of the Stamford Superior Court. The warrants obtained were for all three suspects as well as the alleged victim.
Eric Sing, 19, of 165 Old Kings Highway North, Darien. He is charged with Falsely Reporting an Incident, 2nd degree; Criminal Attempt to Sale of Marijuana; Possession of Marijuana; Possession of Narcotics; and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was processed at Darien Police Headquarters and released with a court date of March 17, 2009, after posting a $2,500 bond.
Benjamin Malloy, 21, of 277 Ocean Drive East, Stamford. He is charged with Criminal Attempt to Robbery 1st and Conspiracy to Robbery 1st. He was processed at Darien Police Headquarters and released with a court date of March 18, 2009, after posting a $2,500 bond.
The two remaining arrest warrants are expected to be served in the next few days.
On Thursday March 5, 2009 two additional arrests were made in the alleged Home Invasion incident that took place on March 3, 2009. At approximately 9:30 AM, Michael Krepak, 20, of 571 Roxbury Rd., Stamford turned himself in at Darien Police Headquarters. He was subsequently charged with Criminal Attempt to Robbery 1st and Conspiracy to Robbery 1st. He was processed and released with a court date of March 18, 2009 after posting a $2,500 bond.
Also turning himself in was a 17 year old male Stamford resident. The subject was charged with Criminal Attempt to Robbery 1st and Conspiracy to Robbery 1st. His name is being withheld due to his age however he also posted a $2500.00 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 18, 2009.
This investigation remains active and is being headed by the Detective Division.
