Darien Police Officers Raise Funds For American Lung Association
Stamford, CTSeveral Darien Police Officers participated in the “Fight For Air” climb on November 6, 2010 at Trump Parc in Stamford.  The 2nd annual fundraising event for the American Lung Association supports the fight against lung disease and associated cancers.  Participants tackled the 34 floors of Trump Parc and competed for the fastest times.
The Darien Police Team, headed by Ofc. Alison Hudyma, raised over $1100.00 and took First Place for “Law Enforcement Teams” during the timed competition.  Hudyma, whose father passed away from lung cancer at age 56, stated “Any event that supports research to find a cure for disease is important.”  Marc Hirsch, Hudyma’s father, died in 2004 from a lung cancer called Thymoma. “It was great that my co-workers found the event as important as I did.  It seems that each of us is either related to, or knows someone who has battled lung disease” Hudyma said.
Team Darien Police trained for the event however the members stated it was more challenging than expected and will begin preparing a little earlier next year.  The Team will be presented with their award on November 22, 2010.  This year’s event raised over $72,000.00 for the fight against lung disease.
