The Darien Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred in the municipal parking area to the rear of 1020 Post Road at approximately 1728 hours (5:28 PM) on January 8th, 2011. Officers arrived to the area within 1-2 minutes of receiving the call. 
 
The female victim, a Darien resident, was walking in the parking lot with a small child when she was approached by a subject who demanded items of jewelry. The subject reportedly was armed with a handgun. The victim did surrender jewelry to the subject who was last seen running from the immediate area on foot. There were no injuries. The subject was not located in the area.           
 
The suspect was described as a black male, approx. 5’9” tall, large build, wearing dark colored clothing and possibly a winter type cap. The Darien Police Department has no information to release concerning a vehicle as of the time of this press release.
 
An on-duty tracking K9 from Westport PD responded to assist the Darien Police Department. The track yielded no information of definitive nature.
 
The Darien Police Department Detective Division is continuing to investigate this incident. Anyone who might have witnessed this incident or has information concerning this robbery is asked to call the Darien Police Department at (203) 662-5300.
