For Immediate Release

On March 12, 2011 at approximately 2:30 am, the Darien Police Department responded to a serious motor vehicle accident on Brookside Rd. near Granaston Ln.  Upon arrival officers determined that a 2001 Chevy Suburban was traveling northbound but then left the roadway and struck a utility pole. The vehicle severed the utility pole and then struck a stone wall and several trees. The operator, a 19 year old Darien man, was the only occupant of the vehicle and was severely injured as a result of the collision. Darien EMS transported the injured operator to Stamford Hospital where his condition is unknown.

The Darien Police Accident Investigation Team (A.I.T.) was called to the scene due to the severity of the incident. Brookside Rd between Granaston Ln and Appletree Rd was closed for scene processing and reconstruction.  That area remains closed while Connecticut Light and Power installs a new utility pole.

This incident is under investigation by the Darien Police A.I.T.   Anyone who has information regarding this incident is asked to please contact the Police Department at 203-662-5300.

Issued 0930 hours.
