90-Minute Delay for Students on Tuesday, November 6th
First, let me express my thanks to you for your cooperation and patience following the events of Hurricane Sandy. We were very fortunate to have the opportunity to open schools and have students and staff in the teaching and learning environment. It was wonderful to see our students and it was evident that they see school as a safe and nurturing place.
As you are aware, tomorrow, November 6th, is Election Day. School will again be on a 90-minute delay schedule with faculty and staff arriving at their regularly scheduled times. Five of our seven schools serve as polling sites and we have worked cooperatively with the Town, the Registrar of Voters, and our local police to ensure that voting can occur in an appropriate manner.
It is important to highlight the following items:
·School polling sites include Darien High School, Hindley School, Holmes School, Ox Ridge School, and Tokeneke School. Voting will also occur at Town Hall. Polls will be open between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m.
·Based on student arrival and departure times, there will be a thirty (30) minute period in the morning and afternoon when traffic will be heaviest. Your consideration of voting at a time other than those listed below is appreciated. These times for the respective sites are as follows:
oDarien High School 8:45 am – 9:15 am & 2:00 pm – 2:30 pm
oHindley School 9:40 am – 10:10 am & 2:40 pm – 3:10 pm
oHolmes School 10:15 am – 10:45 am & 3:15 pm – 3:45 pm
oOx Ridge School 10:15 am – 10:45 am & 3:15 pm – 3:45 pm
oTokeneke School 9:40 am - 10:10 am & 2:40 pm – 3:10 pm
·There will be adequate parking for voters at each of these sites. Faculty and staff have been asked to park in areas away from the building to accommodate voters. There will be police and school security monitors at each of the sites who will direct traffic and monitor the school building. Your following their direction is appreciated.
·Please note that there will be security inside the building and we will require that voters exit the building upon completion of their voting.
