Youth Division

The Darien Police Department recognizes the value to society and importance of early intervention of juvenile offenders. The Youth Division has designated detectives to properly and thoroughly carry out a three pronged approach to this end. Education, prevention, and diversion are the first steps before litigious court action is taken with youthful offenders, and it is through the support of the community and the collaboration with the various social service agencies, that this approach has been successful and widely accepted. The Youth Division also handles crimes against or involving juveniles. The Detectives assigned to this unit receive extra training in the areas of youth crime and neglect. The detectives work closely with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) the Darien School System and other State and local agencies.

Information concerning juveniles is confidential

July 2011,

The Stamford Advocate has launched a project, Speak Out Against Bullying, to raise awareness about kids and teens who are bullied in school and to help erase the stigma associated with those who have been bullied.  Two teens shared their stories in the video below, and The Advocate is encouraging other kids and teens to add their voices and experiences to the conversation.  More videos, in addition to articles, will be coming out on this very important topic.

If you would like to contribute your story, please e-mail your video to speakout@ctnews.com or visit the Speak Out Against Bullying Facebook page.
