Every officer in this unit is trained and certified in bicycle safety. The certification consists of forty hours of classroom and road training in bicycle maintenance and repair, road cycling, law enforcement tactics, and bicycle safety regulations.
The Bicycle Division patrols downtown Darien along the Post Road, town parks, train lots, and beaches. This unit of the Police Department focuses on community policing and relations. The Bicycle Division also spends an equal amount of time on traffic enforcement and parking enforcement. This unit keeps an eye on stores and deterring crime in the downtown area of Darien.
