The Darien Police Department recently added a second Harley Davidson Road King police motorcycle to the patrol fleet. The motorcycles, which is assigned to the Traffic Division, will concentrate on enforcing motor vehicle laws in locations that have been determined to be problem areas, based on patterns or citizen complaints. The motorcycles will also be available for escorting special details such as parades, road races and other community events.
The police motorcycles has several advantages over a patrol car.
The compact size and maneuverability of the motorcycles make it ideal for traffic enforcement and for responding to calls for service in heavy traffic. The police motorcycles are also more economical, with an estimated 35-46mpg.
Officer T. Court Isaac, a nine-year veteran of the police department, is currently one of two officers operating in this division. The second officer, James Martin, is a two-year veteran of the police department. These two officers who have attended a rigorous two-week training course to obtain their Motor Officer certification.
