Issued by: Det. Sgt. Jeremiah
P. Marron Jr.
For
Immediate Release

DARIEN, CT. — On 9/13/2016 at approximately 7:30 am, Darien
officers were dispatched to 120 Brookside Rd on a report of a subject sleeping
in the woods alongside a walking trail at Cherry Lawn Park. Within two minutes, a white male sleeping
under a tarp was located. The male,
later identified as Brian K. Cook DOB 6/5/1981 LKA 635 Park Ave. Idaho Falls,
ID, could not produce identification. Cook
appeared to be homeless but claimed he was walking from “Denver, CO to Bangor,
ME” in honor of his deceased daughter.
Officers determined that the Cook
was not providing truthful information about his identity and was placed under
arrest. It was then determined that Cook is a Fugitive From Justice from
the State of Idaho. Cook has an extensive criminal history and an
outstanding extraditable warrant in Idaho for probation violations stemming
from rape charges involving a victim under one (1) year old. Cook is
currently listed on the National Sex Offender Registry.
While being taken into custody, a
machete style knife along with another illegal knife was discovered in his
possession. During processing Cook admitted to concealing his identity
due to the fact that he is wanted in Idaho.
He also admitted that he was currently trying to flee to Canada through
Maine. Cook was subsequently charged with:
·
Interfering With An Officer
·
Possession of a Dangerous Weapon (2Counts)
·
Violation of Town Ordinance (Camping)
·
Fugitive From Justice
He was held on a combined bond of
$300,000.00 and was arraigned in Stamford Superior Court on 9/14/2016. He is currently incarcerated at Bridgeport
Correctional Facility to await extradition to Idaho.
Through investigation it was
determined that Cook had only been in the Darien area for approximately nine
(9) hours. At this point Cook is not
being investigated for any other incident in Darien or the surrounding areas.
