Re:
Arrest of Luis Medina
Issued by:
Det. Sgt. Jeremiah P.
Marron Jr.
Darien, CT – Shortly
before 8:00 am on January 13, 2017, this agency was contacted by a manager of
CVS Pharmacy, 964 Post Rd., who reported that a male subject had just stolen
numerous high end shampoo and haircare products from the store. The caller provided a description of the
suspect and reported that he had already left the establishment, ran across
the street to the Darien Train Station, and had entered a taxi.
The first patrol
officer arriving on scene located several taxis in line at the train station
however only the first taxi was occupied.
As the officer approached the right rear passenger door of the taxi, he
observed that the subject inside the taxi matched the provided suspect
description. After brief questioning the
officer handcuffed and detained the subject.
Shortly thereafter the subject was identified as Luis Medina DOB
04/27/1991 of 2565 Marion Ave. Bronx, NY.
Officers then
gained access to CVS surveillance video and observed Medina remove and conceal
approximately 15 haircare items from a shelf in the store and conceal them in
his loose fitting pants. After placing
Medina under arrest and searching him, the items removed from the store shelf
were recovered in his pants. Several
other haircare products were also recovered in a back pack that Medina was
wearing. These items were later
determined to have been stolen from a CVS in Bronx, NY earlier today. Officers also located a tool used to remove
security devices from high end retail merchandise in Medina’s back pack.
On December 27,
2016 the Darien CVS had approximately $3,000.00 in high end hair care products
stolen and through investigation officers identified Medina as the suspect in
this incident as well. In all Medina has
stolen approximately $3,500.00 in merchandise from the Darien CVS in the two
incidents.
During this
investigation, Medina was also identified as a suspect in shoplifting incidents
in CVS stores in Stamford, Westport, and New York City. In these incidents he’s stolen approximately
$9,000.00 worth of merchandise.
While being
processed at Darien Police HQ it was discovered that Medina had an outstanding
