For Immediate Release
Darien, CT –
On July 16th, 2017 at approximately 4:45pm, the Darien Police responded to a Post Road home on the report of an unknown party in the residence.
Around that time, a 16 year-old (juvenile) from Stamford knocked on the front door of the residence. A 10 year old resident of the home opened the door and the juvenile entered the home. It was reported that the juvenile was making incoherent statements and sweating profusely, appearing to be under the influence of a substance. The 10 year old exited the house and called his parents, who in turn called their 17 year old son who was inside the home and unaware of the incident. The 17 year old confronted the Juvenile and a physical altercation ensued, resulting in the 17 year old resident being struck the juvenile. After the altercation the 17 year old exited the residence to await the arrival of his parents. When the adult residents of the home arrived, the adult male entered the home and confronted the juvenile. The juvenile became aggressive and attempted to attack the resident. The resident exited the home and called the police.
Upon arrival, Officers entered the house and confronted the juvenile. The juvenile immediately became aggressive with Officers as they gave him verbal commands and attempted to gain compliance. The juvenile refused to comply, at which point he was physically taken into custody. The juvenile struggled with Officers during the encounter, causing minor injuries to two Officers. Neither required transport to the hospital.
Due to his obvious impairment, Post 53 responded to the scene to transport the juvenile to Stamford Hospital. As the juvenile was continuing to be aggressive, an Officer accompanied him in the ambulance. During the transport, the Juvenile broke free of his restraints several times. The Officer reported having to re-secure the leg restraints repeatedly due to the Juvenile’s aggressive outbursts. During one of the outbursts, the juvenile kicked a Post 53 member in the face, causing injury to his face and nose. The Post 53 member was treated by the Stamford Emergency Department upon their arrival.
Once at the hospital, where he was under guard by two Officers, the juvenile was treated by Stamford Emergency Department staff. After being treated over a period of time, the juvenile appeared to no longer be under the influence of intoxicants. At this point, a Darien Police Youth Detective met with both the Juvenile and his Parents. The juvenile was released to his parents and given a court date of July 18th, 2017 at Stamford Juvenile Court for the following charges:
53-21: Risk of Injury to a Minor
53a-61: Assault in the 3rd Degree
53a-49 to 53a-61: Criminal Attempt to Assault 3rd
