Darien Police Chief Don Anderson and the Darien Police Commission are proud to announce the promotion of Lt. Alison Hudyma to the rank of Captain, effective March 20, 2022. On behalf of the entire staff of the Darien Police Department, we offer our sincere congratulations to Captain Alison Hudyma on this well-deserved promotion.

Captain Hudyma is a 21 year veteran of the Department and graduated from the Connecticut POST-C Police Academy in 2000.  After serving for 11 years as a patrol officer, she was promoted to Sergeant in 2011 and Lieutenant in 2019.  Captain Hudyma has served the department with distinction in both the Field Services Division and the Training Division, as both an officer and supervisor, and is currently serving as the Training Lieutenant.

Captain Hudyma earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resources Wildlife Management from the University of Connecticut, a Master of Science degree in Forensic Science Advanced Investigation from the University of New Haven, and a Certificate in Victim’s Rights & Services from the University of New Haven.

Captain Hudyma is currently the Supervisor of the Accident Investigation Unit and the Supervisor of the Domestic Violence Liaison group.  Over the course of her career, she has been a member of the Marine Unit, Bicycle Unit, and also served as a Field Training Officer.  She currently is a board member for the Darien Domestic Abuse Council, a non-profit group raising awareness for Domestic Violence victims in Darien and also serves on the Lethality Assessment Program Advisory Committee for the State of Connecticut.  She is a member of Cops & Kids and helps administer “Respectworks,” in conjunction with the Darien High School and Depot Youth Center.

Captain Hudyma is once again making history within the department.  With her promotion to Lieutenant in 2019, she became the first female Lieutenant in the 97 year history of the Darien Police Department.  In the coming weeks, she will become the department’s first female Captain and Division Commander.

Kim Huffard, Darien Police Commission Chair:  On behalf of the Police Commission, I want to congratulate Captain Hudyma on her well-deserved promotion.  The Darien Police Department continues to attract, train and promote the highest quality officers, providing top notch service to our community.  Captain Hudyma follows in a long line of quality and dedicated officers, and I feel extremely confident the Department is in good hands with the addition of Captain Hudyma to the administrative ranks.”

Don Anderson, Darien Chief of Police: Captain Hudyma has proven herself to be dedicated and valuable member of the Darien Police Department for over two decades.  Her promotion to the rank of Captain is certainly well-deserved and I am highly confident in her ability to continue to provide professional service to all residents and visitors to the town of Darien in her new assignment.”
