Re: Threatening
Social Media Post
Issued by: Chief Jeremiah P. Marron Jr.
For
Immediate Release
Darien, CT – The Darien
Police Detective Division has identified a juvenile resident of the State of Arkansas
as being responsible for a threatening social media post toward Darien High
School. The post was made recently on
Instagram and referenced a firearm.
During the early stages of the
investigation, Darien High School was placed on a two hour delay and then
subsequently closed out of an abundance of caution. Darien Detectives, collaborating with Meta Platforms Inc., the FBI, and the Connecticut Intelligence Center,
were able to trace the account to the juvenile and we are now working with Arkansas
Law Enforcement. The juvenile has been
since located and is being questioned by authorities at this time. Currently there is no known credible threat
to any school in Darien. As this
investigation continues, we will provide an update if necessary.
I would like to thank the Darien
Police Patrol and Detective Divisions, the Darien Public School District,
Interim Superintendent Byrne, and all of our law enforcement partners for their
assistance in this incident.
I would also like to use this
opportunity to remind the general public that anything that effectively
resembles a threat or potential threat to our schools or in fact appears to be
a compromise to the safety of our children, will not only elicit an immediate
response by our agency, but without exception will be dealt with thoroughly and
under the full authority of law.
