Field Services Bureau

The mission of the Darien Police Department's Field Services Bureau is to prevent crime, minimize harm against persons and property, and increase community perceptions of safety. This is accomplished through proactive patrols, comprehensive and efficient investigations, holding criminal offenders to account, community awareness programs, and the fair and consistent enforcement of criminal and traffic laws.

The following Divisions and functions fall under the command of the Field Services Bureau Captain:

About Captain Lawlor

Captain John Lawlor was born and raised in Stamford, CT and he is a 33-year veteran of the Department. He was promoted to sergeant in 2000 and lieutenant in 2013 where he served as a supervisor in the Patrol and Training divisions. He instituted the Department’s Crisis Intervention Team and also the Department’s Project Lifesaver program. Captain Lawlor is a member of the school safety committee and is a long standing member of the Department’s SCUBA team and the Southwest Regional Emergency Response Team.

Captain Lawlor is a 2007 graduate of the Fairfield County Detective School and a 2014 graduate of Roger Williams University Mid-Level Police Management Program. Captain Lawlor holds a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Iona College and a MSW from Fordham University. He is a licensed clinical social worker and volunteers in the marriage ministry at his church.

In March 2017, Captain Lawlor was appointed to his current position, heading the Department's Field Services Bureau.

Captain Lawlor retired from the Darien Police Department in March, 2019.
